Upwind of the Fire
I look around just on the edge of darkness
For a moment all my senses are so keen
There is no telling of this feeling
as it comes to me at night,
Of my secrets, of my wanting to be seen
I turn around to find you in the firelight
As close ahead the fire seeks the sky
There is no telling of this feeling
as I stare into the night,
Of the nature, of my longing to get by
But the smoke has cleared my eyes
and left me standing
And the longing for you will not go away
If you were here to fan the flames higher,
I wouldn't stand alone upwind of the fire
I can bear up to the sun and the exposure,
Drive a thousand miles to find that I am free
There is no telling what I'd do
without you in my life...
I still need you to help me see
I can face up to the heavens, the Almighty,
Drive my pen across a page of poetry
There is no telling of this feeling
as I ride into the night...
Of a love that will forever burn in me!
